VOIVOD Drummer Joins 'Capital Of Metal' Web Team
October 10, 2007Capital of Metal has announced the addition of Michel "Away" Langevin to its web team. Well known as VOIVOD's drummer for over 20 years, Langevin has also recently been active in different projects across Quebec, such as LES EKORCHÉS and AUT' CHOSE. Along with his texts and drawings he's been known for since the beginning of VOIVOD, he now brings to Capital of Metal a matchless experience in all forms of metal. This newly acquired experience adds to the services already offered by Capital of Metal, which include international concert promotion, talent management and specialized information diffusion through its domain, www.capitaledumetal.com.
As of now, everybody will be able to read Langevin's "Cyberoid" thoughts and appreciate his trademark drawings. Three times each month, he will offer the inside of his brain… Prepare for a trip through imagination like never experienced before and expect some cool surprises as well. Also, as part of his collaboration with Capital of Metal, he will answer fan mail about music in general, life on the road, the long lasting VOIVOD career and everything metal-related.
VOIVOD's videos for the songs "Polaroids" and "X-Stream", both of which were directed by Scot McFadyen of Banger Productions, have been released and can be viewed below. The "Polaroids" clip features some of Michel "Away" Langevin's animation work.
As previously reported, VOIVOD won the "Best Metal/Hardcore Album" award for their 2006 LP "Katorz" last month at the annual Quebec Independent Music Awards (GAMIQ) in Montreal, Quebec. Other nominees were GHOULUNATICS ("Cryogénie"),UNEXPECT ("In A Flesh Aquarium"),ANONYMUS ("Chapter Chaos Begins"),and LES ÉKORCHÉS ("Les Ékorchés").
Released in July 2006 on The End Records, "Katorz" was assembled, recorded and released by the band (drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, singer Denis "Snake" Belanger and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted) and producer Glen Robinson using demos left by founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, who succumbed to colon cancer in August 2005. The CD has sold around 10,000 copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
